Welcome to Southern Craftsman Construction - where South Carolina dreams it and we build it! We picked up our tool belt in 1984 and haven't put it down yet. South Carolina owned and operated, we are a licensed general contractor as well as a developer of all types of real estate projects.
Throughout this website, we invite you to peek into our neighborhoods and commercial spaces to see how Southern Craftsman Construction can meet all your construction and development needs.
Dan Ligon owns and operates a general contracting firm that provides construction and development services around South Carolina from its office in North Charleston. Founded in 1996, the remodeling division serves the renovation needs of the Low Country and Midlands regions, while larger commercial and multi-family projects are constructed throughout the state. The firm has expanded into the development of loft condominiums for those interested in a downtown urban lifestyle. Also, the firm provides development assistance to non-profit organizations interested in the expansion of affordable housing and economic development opportunities state-wide. To date, over 1,000 units of affordable housing have been created or maintained in this way.
Mr. Ligon serves as advisor to the Palmetto Development Group, a community development financial institution that proposes to increase the amount of capital and technical assistance available to small businesses, especially those located along the I-95 Corridor. While working on an economic development initiative funded by the Ford Foundation, he wrote the first draft of legislation that was eventually passed into law and signed by Governor Hodges that establishes state incentives for investment in organizations promoting economic growth in distressed parts of South Carolina.
His volunteer efforts include an extensive involvement with Habitat for Humanity, including being the co-founder of the Charleston Habitat chapter. In addition, he was the principal author of legislation establishing the SC Housing Trust Fund, which has made over one hundred million dollars available to improve housing conditions in the state during its eighteen years of existence.
His education includes a Bachelors degree in Economics from St. Andrews College, Laurinburg, NC and a Master’s degree in International Finance from George Washington University, Washington, DC.
